Flavours Food Festival 2019
On Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October you are invited to join us for the fourth Flavours Food Festival, set in the historic conservation village of Elsecar.
Opening times of the festival are:
Saturday 10am - 6pm
Sunday 10am - 5pm
The village, attracting over 440,000 visitors a year, is rich in history and character. Today it is home to a series of independent craftsmen and retailers as well as a heritage railway. The site is located a mere 2 miles from junction 36 of the M1 and is well signposted
This spectacular two day event will see the unique historical site transformed into a bustling food and drink and market, offering a wide variety of tasty treats and creative displays.
Alongside stalls and street food, there will also be a cookery demonstration theatre positioned outside the Ironworks. Currently, the following chefs have been booked and will perform a certain amount of demonstrations on both days:
Saturday & Sunday:
Jean Christophe Novelli - http://www.jeanchristophenovelli.com/
Other local chefs from the area will also get involved in demonstrations.
With seating for over 100 people in the old Boathouse outside the Ironworks, visitors will have the opportunity to watch all the cookery demonstrations.
Inside the Ironworks, the versatile events space, approximately 70 local and national food producers will set out their wares. Here, visitors can browse, sample and even begin their Christmas shopping.
At the back of the Old Works Yard there will be a large selection of tempting street food. This area will be open until 6pm on Saturday so visitors can enjoy live music, craft ale, prosecco, cocktails and street food.
Set in over an acre of land, the site was originally the colliery for the 1795 Wentworth estate. The Elsecar Ironworks, built by John and William Darwin & Co., were originally situated near outcrops of ironstone towards the back of the Centre – you can still see the ruins of these buildings today. The site is also home to the mighty Newcomen Beam Engine, described as the most important piece of industrial heritage in the world and one of the finest surviving legacies of the Industrial Revolution. Built in 1795, it is the oldest steam engine still in its original location and once moved vast amounts of water to stop the colliery tunnels below from becoming flooded.
Parking is free, and there is a visitor charge of £5 per person (Under 14's go FREE). This allows entry to the Food Festival only and includes all demonstrations.
